DigitalOcean

Learn how you can use MailWizz on a DigitalOcean droplet.

What is DigitalOcean

DigitalOcean is currently one of the largest and full featured cloud providers in the world.
Beside offering a variety of virtual private server types, which they call droplets, DigitalOcean also offers access to load balancers, firewalls, storage, managed databases or kubernetes, just take a look at their products offering to see them all.
With a worldwide data centers distribution, together with a wide selection of operating systems, it's easy to see how DigitalOcean is a very good solution for hosting all types of applications, email marketing software included.

DigitalOcean VPS pricing

With DigitalOcean, you know exactly how much you will pay at the end of the month, which is one of the great things about their platform.
You can spin a 1 GB RAM droplet with 1 VCPU for just $5.00/month to check out their platform. Of course, for anything serious you need much more than this, and DigitalOcean has you covered, they offer standard droplets, general purpose droplets, CPU optimized droplets and memory optimized droplets, which goes without saying, it's impossible to not find the right droplet size for your project.

Using MailWizz on DigitalOcean

In order to run MailWizz on DigitalOcean, your droplet has to be properly configured to host a PHP web application, which means you need to install a web server, that is either nginx or apache, we generally recommend using nginx because is not that resources hungry as apache is, but you should use the one you have better experience with, then you will also need to install PHP, always try to use latest version, and MySQL or MariaDB, which is the database server which holds all your MailWizz system data.
Putting all these pieces together can be a daunting task and while there are plenty tutorials available online to do this, we advise either to hire a system administrator to properly install everything for you, or use a service such as MailWizz VPS Install, which configures the droplet automatically for MailWizz.
We recommend starting with a CPU optimized droplet, with at least 2 VCPU and 4 GB RAM and increase as your application needs.
