We are happy to announce the release of MailWizz 3.0.
MailWizz 3.0 is a major version, built around a simple goal: keep MailWizz compatible with modern PHP releases while adding a few features that our users have been asking for.

Why a new major version

PHP keeps moving forward, and so do the libraries MailWizz depends on.
In order to properly support PHP 8.2 and later versions, up to PHP 8.5, we had to upgrade a large number of third party libraries, and in some cases these upgrades were not compatible with older PHP versions anymore.
Since this is a breaking change for anyone running MailWizz on an older PHP version, we followed semantic versioning and packaged all these changes into a new major release.

The changes

Here is what changed in MailWizz 3.0:
- Minimum required PHP version is now 8.2
- Removed Pepipost as a delivery server option
- Removed SendinBlue as a delivery server option, since the service is now known as Brevo
- Removed the vcard functionality
- X (Twitter) and Facebook login now use HybridAuth, so you may need to set them up again
- Upgraded all libraries to versions compatible with PHP 8.2
- Removed the knockoutjs library in favour of plain JavaScript
- Added the ability to rate campaigns, available in your email templates through the [CAMPAIGN_RATING_OPTIONS] tag
- Improved the basic drag and drop email template editor, with new blocks added
- Dropped support for POP3 connections for bounce, feedback loop and email box monitor servers
- Added an MCP server, which the AI Assistant now connects to in order to carry out actions against your lists, campaigns, templates and more

Better integration with AI and LLMs

Alongside the MCP server and the AI Assistant, we have also taken steps to make MailWizz easier to integrate with large language models and automation in general.
We have released a dedicated command line tool, built to be used by both humans and LLMs.
Together, these additions make it much easier to connect MailWizz to your favourite AI tools and automated workflows.

Upgrading from MailWizz 2.x

If you are currently running MailWizz 2.x, you will need to upgrade to MailWizz 3.0 manually, following the steps from our KB.
This is required because we do not allow automatic updates between major versions, the same rule we followed when we released MailWizz 2.0.
Once you are on MailWizz 3.0, automatic updates will work again for any future version released on the 3.x branch.

What is the plan for MailWizz 2.x

MailWizz 2.x now enters maintenance mode. It will not receive new features anymore, only fixes when needed.
You can keep using MailWizz 2.x for as long as you need, and you will still be able to update to the latest 2.x version, either manually or automatically.

How about MailWizz's extensions

We are updating MailWizz's extensions so that, going forward, downloads will include the right build for your MailWizz version.
Please make sure to upload the version matching your current MailWizz installation.

Final thoughts

MailWizz 3.0 is the result of a lot of work to keep MailWizz compatible with modern PHP versions for years to come, while also adding a handful of features we know you will enjoy.
We highly advise you to try MailWizz 3.0, be it by doing a fresh install or an upgrade from 2.x.
We think you will be very pleased with the changes.
